HISTORY

MAXX is a famous 90’s eurodance duo act best known for the hit singles “Get-A-Way,” “No More (I Can’t Stand It)” and “You Can Get It.” The act was formed in Berlin, Germany in 1993 by music executive David Brunner (aka The Hitman) and music producer Jürgen Wind (aka George Torpey). During MAXX’s initial two year run (1993-1995), the act itself went through noticeable changes with its female lead singers. By mid-1994, MAXX had quickly grown to become one of Europe’s new dance music sensations due to their creative mixture of ragga style rap, female singing and distinctive dancefloor beats.

“Get-A-Way,” the debut MAXX single, featured vocals by rapper Gary B. and singer Samira Besic.  When the single was released on October 1993, it quickly became a Top 10-hit in Germany and grew to become a major dancefloor sensation in night clubs all over Europe. It quickly took the Top-5 spot in the UK, Austria, Sweden, Netherlands and the Top-10 spot in Switzerland and Norway. The single was later certified gold in Germany and silver in the UK. By mid-1994, “Get-A-Way” reached a sum total of 1.1 million in European record sales.

In response to the massive commercial success of “Get-A-Way,” plans were made for an album, new music videos and a massive marketing campaign. For unknown reasons, singer Samira Besic did not participate further in MAXX beyond recording vocals for “Get-A-Way.” She later found success as a solo artist with the hit single “When I Look Into Your Eyes.” In Besic’s place for the music video for the single was model-dancer Alice Montana. Montana lip-synced Besic’s vocals for the video and was falsely advertised as the voice behind the song. After an intense search in Germany for an official replacement for Besic, singer-songwriter Linda Meek (now known as Elyse) was discovered and brought into the act as the new lead singer in early 1994. She recorded vocals for the follow up MAXX single “No More (I Can’t Stand It)” which also became a Top-10 hit like “Get-A-Way.”

MAXX began touring all over Western Europe and in Canada as a live duo act during the height of the popularity of “Get-A-Way” and “No More (I Can’t Stand It).”  MAXX also performed live on popular music chart TV programs like Top of the Pops, Bravo TV, Dance Machine, Superclassifica Show and various MTV Festivals in Europe.

Due to popular demand, MAXX quickly released an album titled “To The Maxximum” in June 1994. The album produced another hit single “You Can Get It.” that ranked No. 21 in UK and No.13 in Finland. Later that year, they recorded the song “Power of Love,” specifically for a special Christmas iteration of “Bravo Hits” a popular 90’s compilation CD series in Germany.  Unfortunately, “Power of Love” was never released as a MAXX single.

By early 1995, MAXX began to struggle to produce new hit singles. The album track “I Can Make You Feel Like” was released as the fourth single in May 1995. Later that year, a non-album single, “Move Your Body,” was also released. Due to major internal conflicts within the group and drops in record sales, MAXX broke up prematurely late in 1995.

After 20 years since the breakup of MAXX, original vocalist Linda Meek (aka Elyse) reunited with MAXX creators David Brunner and Jürgen Wind in August 2016. The three began making plans to reform MAXX with a new rapper. In December 2016, UK based rapper/singer ‘Elijah MC’ was officially recruited into the act as MAXX’s new rapper and frontman.

For almost two decades, MAXX fans all over the world have awaited for an official return of the group and to hear new MAXX music. In the year 2017, the fans will finally get their wish.
